Popcorn Ceiling Removal Cost
Every situation is a little different when it comes to removing popcorn ceilings. There is no perfect way to determine the cost. However, this article should help you get a better idea of how much your project should cost.
1. Where do you live? The cost of popcorn ceiling removal is typically higher in urban areas, like Los Angeles and New York City. If you live in a more rural area, prices tend to be a little lower.
2. Is asbestos a concern? Prior to the 1980’s, building materials often contained asbestos. If you live in an older home, you may encounter an asbestos problem when removing your popcorn ceilings. Unfortunately, if asbestos is found, the remediation may significantly increase the cost of your project.
3. How much needs to be removed? Most removal contractors will base their quote on the square footage of ceiling area. Large, multi-room projects will cost a lot more than removing the ceiling texture from a single room. The cost of your project may increase if you have very high ceilings as well.
4. Have the ceilings been painted? It will take more time to remove popcorn ceilings that have been painted. As a result, you should expect to pay a slightly higher cost per square foot for painted ceilings.
5. What’s included in the cost? The contractor should scrape off all of the popcorn ceiling texture and cleanup the mess that leaves behind. Some basic sanding and refinishing may also be included. However, any major repairs will come at an additional cost.
6. What’s next? Any additional work will come at an additional cost. If you want to hang drywall, re-paint, or apply a new texture, this will increase the cost of your project.
